More Than a Move: How Our New Home Reflects Our Mission

When we first dreamed of a new home for Kindred Hearts, it wasn’t just about having more space—it was about having the right space. A space that reflects who we are, what we value, and how we show up for the families we serve. After months of planning, building, and moving, we’re proud to finally be in our new home at 2110 Ferry Street in Anderson. And I want to share with you why this move is so much more than just a new address.
A Space Rooted in Mission
At Kindred Hearts, our mission is to provide resources, guidance, and a sense of community to adoptive families, empowering them to navigate the challenges and joys that come with adoption. Every corner of this new space was designed to bring that mission to life—not just in function, but in feeling.
Our new home spans a three-building campus, allowing us to serve families with greater intention and care. The main building houses our administrative offices, Enhanced Care Management (ECM), Wraparound services, and community programs—all designed with collaboration and accessibility in mind. A dedicated counseling building offers a private, quiet environment for healing conversations and clinical work, honoring the need for calm and confidentiality. The third building, a garage, serves as a centralized hub for event supplies and recreational materials—helping us stay organized and ready to support families with creative, engaging experiences.
Trauma-Informed Design, Inside and Out
Healing doesn’t happen in sterile, fluorescent-lit rooms. It happens in spaces that are warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully crafted with emotional regulation in mind. That’s why we focused on trauma-informed design principles as we brought this space to life:
Natural light fills our lobby and meeting rooms, promoting calm and openness
Soft textures, cozy nooks, and soothing colors provide comfort and a sense of safety
Secured outdoor spaces allow for movement, play, and regulation
We’re especially excited to be working toward a secured on-site playground, which should be ready by August
Local artwork and intentional touches throughout the space remind every family that they belong here
This isn’t just a clinic or an office. It’s a home base for healing. We’ve been intentional with every detail—from the layout to the lighting—to create a flow that makes families feel cared for the moment they walk through the door.
Built for Families, Not Just Services
We designed this space for real families living real, complex lives—not just for programs and paperwork.
The new Family Room and Sensory Room offers a safe and engaging place for kids during support groups and training sessions. Our Community Room provides a flexible gathering space for events, meetings, and education. The counseling wing, now in its own dedicated building, creates the peaceful, focused environment that clinical care deserves. And our Wraparound and ECM teams now work side by side with administrative and community program staff, encouraging communication and consistency across services.
This campus reflects our core belief: families thrive when surrounded by coordinated, compassionate care.
A Phased Approach, Built on Purpose
As a nonprofit, we know that transformation doesn’t happen overnight. This move will unfold in phases—with landscaping, decor, and other finishing touches continuing to evolve over the coming months. But even in these early stages, we’re already seeing the difference. The foundation is here, and the vision is alive.
Each piece we add—from garden beds to therapy spaces—will be grounded in our mission: healing, connection, and belonging.
A Statement of Sustainability and Growth
This move also marks a major step forward in our long-term sustainability. With more room to grow, we can now host more families, expand our programs, and welcome additional therapists, mentors, and support staff. We’ve already begun onboarding new team members, and this space gives us the infrastructure we need to keep growing—without compromising the quality or heart of what we do.
By investing in this space, we’re investing in a stronger future—not just for our organization, but for the families we serve.
Belonging You Can Feel
At the end of the day, this new home is more than a building—it’s a reflection of our heart. It’s a place where kids can be kids, where parents can breathe, and where healing feels possible. It’s a place where families know they’re not alone.
Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or are just finding your way to Kindred Hearts, I hope you’ll stop by and see the space. We’d love to show you around. Because we didn’t just build this for us—we built it for you.
